The Nellie's Basin Trail starts about 100 yards up Forest Service (FS) Road 555EC - at its intersection with FS Road 555 (Scott Mountain Road) and just past the site of an old Forest Service guard station. There is a nearby spring that bubbles up from the ground. The trail travels along a grassy ridge then begins to descend down a timbered ridge between Nellie's Basin Creek to the south and Sam's Creek to the north. About halfway down, the trail overlooks Nellie's Basin which is a small open area in the Nellie's Creek drainage containing aspen groves, springs, and elk wallows. The trail continues down the ridge, terminating at the Julie Creek Trail. Deer, elk, and bear are common in the area as are grouse. Most of this trail is very steep and traveling is challenging for all trail users.
