The Stratton Creek Trail begins west of Forest Service (FS) Road 579 across from Deadwood Outfitters. It switchbacks up a steep slope of loose gravel which is very difficult to ride on motorcycles. After about a mile it crosses a fork of Stratton Creek and proceeds west into Stratton Basin where the terrain levels considerably. The trail continues west out of the basin and over a ridge into the Oxtail Creek drainage where it turns northwest and continues along the creek for about 1.5 miles before intersecting with the Bull Creek Trail.
