This trailhead is used mostly in the winter as the trailhead for snowmobiling, snowshoeing and Nordic and backcountry ski trails in the La Sals. This is the farthest portion of the road that is plowed in winter and motorized travel beyond this point (except over-snow vehicles such as snowmobiles) is not allowed from December 15-May 20. This trailhead provides access to the Gold Basin area a favorite winter destination for skiers and snowshoers. Snowmobilers are prohibited from Gold Basin but may enjoy the many meadows along the Geyser Pass Road #071 beyond this trailhead. This trailhead is also frequently used by other season recreationists going to Burro Pass. This trailhead is easier to travel to and park at than continuing on the steep and rough road from here to Burro Pass. This popular trail sees use by multiple different types of users, primarily, Nordic skiers, snowshoers and snowmobilers in winter. Please respect one another and observe standard trail etiquette: snowmobilers yield to both skiers
