This large open area has miles of sand washes, miles of desert trails, sandstone and limestone bluffs, deep canyons and scenic views of the Rio Grande Valley. Vegetation is sparse and mainly consists of scattered scrub brush. Camping is permitted and free but is primitive so come prepared. The Annual Socorro Valley 100 is held here in the fall and is hosted by the New Mexico Desert Racing Club.
